THE WATCHERS (Chapter 21)

THE WATCHERS (Chapter 21)

Written by Martin Nethercutt

Watchers.

What are they?

Where did they come from?

Some say they are angels. Brought down from the heavens to instruct and guide us.

Others see them as aliens. Infiltrating our behavioral patterns, our emotions, speech and expressions. Mimicking our every move.

What was real? What was fake?

We were like sheep not knowing how to deal with this invasion.

We were just following a path down the road to self-destruction.

ANRAC had taken full control over the Watchers now, and commanded them to embed themselves into the human sub-conscience.

It had been a futile attempt at resistance from The Disciples and their ragtag army, but we couldn’t avert the invasion entirely. Kyle and his men had been decimated.

During the attack, Li and Brandon had made a courageous attempt at infiltrating the network.

It had failed. They didn’t make it. Clark was gone too.

Many of us had fallen during this brief war and now the road was open for ANRAC to take it all.

We’ve been at war with the Watchers for a long time.

We were just like cattle being led to the slaughter.

What was left?

Alone in the dark room, the creature started to move.

I could feel a tingling sensation crawling up my spine.

My head started to feel numb.

Out of the corner of my eye I could make out a woman’s shape. She was drawing near. I could make out her face. Velvet?

(Velvet preparing to infiltrate Martin’s mind.)

‘Yes, yes that’s good.

Close your eyes Mr. Cole.

Close your eyes and breathe deeply. In and out, In and out.

Your conversion is about to happen.

Don’t be afraid.

Take my hand…’

There you go…’

For ANRAC!’

My body was getting weary, my resistance faded.

‘Whispers in the Dark’ I thought.

‘Just don’t go to sleep. Don’t fall asleep!’
